Are you one of the 22 million American women struggling with pathological dieting?
Frustrated by the often unrealistic standards of beauty presented by todays media, many women have become trapped in a never-ending pattern of chronic dieting. Daily they endure destructive self-talk such as I cant eat that or Ill get fat or If I could just lose a few more pounds everything would be better.
Chronic dieters may be any shape or size but they have one thing in common: They are often left to suffer alone with an undiagnosed sub-clinical eating disorder. Such sub-clinical disorders include eating habits that are unusual, even unhealthy, but do not fit the technical classifications of anorexia or bulimia.
Addressing the many dimension of chronic dieting, Life Inside the Thin Cage offers a wake-up call and practical steps to those who need healing. Readers will find personal stories, insights into their secret patterns and habits, reassurance that they are not alone, checklists, self-tests, and, best of all, a new road to emotional, physical, mental and spiritual freedom.

Life Inside the Thin Cage
Who would have imagined that being disciplined at dieting would actually be a bad thing? I mean, to be able to resist nachos and choose grilled chicken insteadthats a good thing, right? And what could be wrong with learning how to control ourselves enough to just leave that huge helping of cake on the plate? Isnt this what were all supposed to strive for?
As with all things, healthy eating requires a balance in such areas as what we eat, when we eat, and how much we eat, and even in our view of the role food should play in our life. The question I finally had to ask myself was Am I balanced when it comes to eating and weight? And the answer was unequivocally no.
I had become so consumed with the fear of gaining weight that I was on an endless and unforgiving diet. Following my initial weight loss after I graduated, I remained on this diet even though I was thin. Did I need to be on a diet? No. I would have been reasonably thin anyway, without all the grief. But I didnt know that. All I knew was that if I dared to eat just one forbidden bite, all would be lost, and Id slip back into the frustrating weight gain I had experienced in college...
